August Nasser Obituary (1933 - 2025)

August Henry Nasser Jr. was born in the Bronx, New York, to young German immigrants on May 27, 1933. Following World War II, the family moved from their tenement to a home that they built in the countryside of Westchester County. Shortly after graduating from Yorktown Heights High School, Gus volunteered to join the Army, where he received training in electronics and radio operations and was sent to Korea. After military service, and with help from the GI Bill, Gus graduated from Pace University with a business degree and enjoyed a successful career in the retail and textile industries, centered in mid-town Manhattan. In 1965 he married Nancy Richards, his wife of almost 60 years. Together they raised four children in suburban NJ. After retirement, Nan and Gus moved to Tucson, where he continued to enjoy traveling, gardening, playing golf, watching sports, feeding birds, and spending time with his family. Gus was preceded in death by his son Scott Nasser. He is survived by his wife Nancy Nasser; his children Christine Rolfes and husband Leonard, Elizabeth (Betsy) King and husband Wayne, Edward (Ted) Nasser and wife Ana; six grandchildren; and his younger sister, Charlotte Byrd of Delaware. Gus maintained a sharp mind and keen sense of humor until his death. He was respected and loved.
