Barbara Ruth Senior

Barbara Ruth Senior, 81, of Fairhope, Alabama passed away peacefully on November 22, 2016 in Oro Valley, Arizona.

Barbara was born in Birmingham, Alabama on October 27, 1935 and received her Bachelors of Education from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She lived in Apple Valley, California; San Antonio, Texas; Jacksonville, Florida; Memphis, Tennessee; and Spartanburg, South Carolina for a total of six years; and Miami for six years, yet lived most of her well-spent years in Mobile/Fairhope, Alabama. Barbara lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Shawn Mangan, in Oro Valley, Arizona the last year or so of her life.

Barbara taught first grade for 27 years and absolutely adored children. And they loved her too. She had a unique way of teaching and disciplining while communicating adoration toward "her children."

Barbara shared a close, affectionate and fun relationship with her husband, Charlie Senior. She was a good sport and was easily humored by her amusing husband. For example, one day he told her, "Barbara, don't get too close to the curb ... they're picking up trash today." On a separate occasion he placed a photocopy of her head on a Beefeater's outfit. Barbara sat and listened to all of Charlie's "stories" and laughed out loud (LOL), and oftentimes even upon the retelling of his stories to someone else. Barbara supported her husband as he served as President of the Baldwin Seniors Travelers Club in Fairhope, Alabama. Even though she was known for getting sea sick, she escorted Charlie (and sometimes daughter too) on 19 cruises around the world and on many air/land excursions in the U.S. and Canada.

She frequently volunteered for her Fairhope, Alabama community and church. She was a true Christian lady and a glowing example of what it means to serve Christ wholeheartedly.

Barbara will be remembered for her devotion, love and the way she sacrificed for others (especially on behalf of her husband and daughter).

Barbara is predeceased by her parents, Harry and Ruth Moore; and her husband and love of her life, Charles Senior Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Robin Mangan; son-in-law, Shawn Mangan of Oro Valley, Arizona; her sister, Marie Wehrman; her brother-in-law, Bill Wehrman; her two nieces, Megan and Elise Wehrman of St. Louis, Missouri; her brother, Bill Moore of San Francisco, California; brother-in-law, Fred Senior of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and best friend, Louise Trimble of Temple Terrace, Florida.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the loving and supportive staff at Casa de la Luz Hospice and Fairwinds Desert Pointe in Oro Valley, Arizona, where Barbara spent the last three weeks of her life. Barbara was blessed to be surrounded by such caring friends to keep watch over her and her daughter at such a critical time.
