Carl Petersen, Jr. Obituary (1922 - 2009)

Carl Petersen, Jr, age 86, passed away at his home in Oro Valley on May 19, 2009. His wife of 50 years, Phyllis, was at his side at the time of his passing. In addition to Phyllis, he is survived by his six children, Debbie (John), Sherry (Bud), Brian (Heidi), Paul (Donna), David, and Greg; his six grandchildren, Christine (Jason), Christopher (Grace), Michael (Jill), Keriann (Josh), Tyler, and Tara; by his 11 great-grandchildren; by his brother Pete (Marian), and by his sister Alice (John). Born in Chester, Ohio, on November 22, 1922, Carl lived in the Cleveland area for 45 years. Carl served in the U.S. Army in World War II as an infantryman in the Rainbow Division, and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. At the war's conclusion, he stayed in Vienna, Austria for a portion of the reconstruction efforts. Upon returning to the States, he attended Dennison University and Case Western Reserve, receiving his Bachelor's degree in Economics. He and Phyllis were married in Cleveland on April 4, 1959. Carl, Phyllis, and the family moved to Tucson in 1967, where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and as a real estate agent. He was actively involved at Catalina Baptist Church for over 30 years. Funeral services and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Episcopal Church of the Apostles, 12111 N. La Cholla Blvd, Oro Valley, with a reception to follow.
