Francis Jerome Murray Obituary (1931 - 2017)

MURRAY, FRANCIS JEROME (Jerry) Jerry Murray, age 86, of Oro Valley, AZ, passed away October 12, 2017. He was born in Chicago, IL, son of Michael Joseph Murray and Frances Patricia (Ward) Murray. Jerry was so much more than just a successful business person; He was truly a Renaissance Man. He was self-taught (art history, architecture, geography, current events) and self-practiced (photography, painting, competitive shooting) well beyond what education he had and positions he held. He and his beloved wife of 66 years, Marilyn, travelled the world together. No matter where he went he engaged the artist, engineer or curator to learn more and personalize the experience. As his travels slowed down he didn't stop, he just "localized." His efforts became focused on his kids, grandchildren, the Foothills Forum, his church, several charities, and the community and staff at Splendido. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Margaret (McDonough) Murray, the love of his life. She was his muse, his greatest treasure, and what drove his many accomplishments. He is survived by 5 children and their spouses: William (Lynn) Murray, Donald (Ginny) Murray, Lynn (Jim) Kuha, Jean (Doug) Gratzer, and Robert (Diana) Murray. He is survived by 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday October 17th at Santa Catalina Catholic Church at 1:30pm, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Catholic Relief Services, Smile Train, or the Splendido Scholarship Program.
