Gareth Halsey Sorrell Obituary (1939 - 2017)

In Memory of Gareth Halsey "Gary" Sorrell ____________________________________________________________________________________ Gareth Halsey Sorrell, 78, formerly of North Abington Township, PA passed away on Wednesday, July 26th, 2017 with his wife and daughters by his side in Tucson, AZ. Born July 11th, 1939, in Meriden, CT; he was the son of the late Ethel and Halsey Sorrell and resided in West Chester, PA and Oro Valley, AZ. Gary graduated from Abington High School in Clarks Summit, PA and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida. Upon graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Supply Officer on the USS Comstock LSD-19. Gary was the owner/president of Halsey Inc. throughout his professional career. He was a former member of the Country Club of Scranton and the Waverly Country Club. Gary actively served and generously supported his community. Gary was an eternal optimist with a contagious smile who adored his family and friends. He saw the good in everyone and everything. He loved golf and was a dedicated sports fan. He enjoyed swimming, taking walks; and always chose the scenic route. Gary savored a good meal, cherished his mornings and took great pleasure in the view from the back patio. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Jody Dorr Sorrell; his two daughters: Suzanne Sorrell Carpenter & husband Jay of Malvern, PA and Taryn Sorrell Sutch & husband Bo of Kennett Square, PA. "Pop" loved his four grandchildren: Brady John Carpenter, Shane Kelly Carpenter, Carter Gareth Sutch, and Tinley Jane Sutch. Gary's family will receive friends in celebration of his life on Saturday, August 19th from11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Waverly Country Club, 903 N. Abington Road, Clarks Summit, PA.
