George Orin Thomasson M.D. Obituary (1937 - 2012)

George Orin Thomasson, M.D. died peacefully in his sleep on Dec. 24, 2012 at the age of 75. George (Papa) Thomasson was born April 22, 1937 in Davenport, Iowa. He decided early on to study medicine and graduated from the Univ. of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1962. He enjoyed a varied medical career including General Practice, a doctor with the Coast Guard, team physician for the Univ. of Florida and was on the medical faculty for the Univ. of Denver. He then began a 20 year career as a Risk Manager with COPIC Insurance until he retired. He is preceded in death by his parents, Loris and Elsie Thomasson, and his daughter, Elizabeth Thomasson. George was blessed and truly adored by his large blended family and is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jacqueline, 8 children: Laura, Bill, Pat, David, Elaine, Kristen, Jill and Paul, and 19 grandchildren. George loved singing, watching sports and traveling the world. An Open House Celebration of George's life will be held at the home of Elaine and Gerry Carter on Jan. 19, 2012 from 1-5 pm.
