Gilbert W. "Gib" Stiles Obituary (1922 - 2008)

Gilbert W. "Gib" Stiles 86 years old, passed away November 8, 2008 in Tucson, AZ. Preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Josephine "Joie" Kiningham Stiles. He is survived by his wife of 16 years Irine; his children Robert (Kathy) Stiles of Covington,LA, Wendy (Chuck) Sweet of Oro Valley, AZ, and Laurie (Lincoln) Daynes of Sierra Vista, AZ; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be dearly missed by his stepsons Dennis (Kim) Humbarger, George (Diane) and Bill (Susan)Huxhold and six step grandchildren and ten step great grandchildren. Gib also loved the four legged members of his children's families. Gib was many things - a devoted and loving husband and father, a moral compass, an extremely intelligent businessman, a financial whiz and a highly respected member of his community. He was a true gentleman with a witty sense of humor. Gib was a Navy veteran of WWII and was proud to have graduated from both Yale and Harvard Universities. Gib served on the Village Board of Libertyville, IL for 24 years, 16 years as a trustee and eight as the Mayor of Libertyville. The Gilbert Stiles Park in Libertyville was named after Gib in honor of his years of dedicated service to the town. Gib spent many years sharing his time between Tucson, AZ, and Sarasota, Fl. He is greatly loved and will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at 6:00 PM at the Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2450 E. Ft. Lowell, Tucson, AZ 85719. Interment to take place at Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines, Il. In Lieu of flowers donations in Gib's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1028 E.
