"Amazing" Grace Dettmann went home to be with our Savior after a courageous, eight-year battle with breast cancer. Beloved wife of David, she is survived by him, their four children (Christianne, Rebecca, Benjamin, Jonathan), one daughter-in-law (Shannen), two grandchildren (Elsa, Naomi), one sister (Judy), one sister-in-law (Sherri), one niece (Beth) and one nephew (Michael).
Dave and Grace recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, having married on June 22, 1968 in Milwaukee, WI. She is preceded in death by her parents (Willard and Grace Smalley), her brother (Fred), her nephew (Russell) and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Grace was an advocate of lifelong learning, having earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and later a Master of Science degree in Management. After becoming a Registered Nurse (R.N.), she worked in intensive care units, emergency rooms, recovery rooms, surveying, home care and nursing administration. She continually sought to share her knowledge in ways that encouraged and helped others.
Grace enjoyed quilting, sewing, embroidery, baking, gardening, swimming and spending time with family (including shopping!). Her zest for living showed in her unspoken shopping philosophy of "if one is good, more is better," which spilled over into many aspects of her life and will be remembered by all.
