Jesus "Chuy" Becerra Obituary (1930

Jesus "Chuy" Becerra, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on January 29, 2020 in Mammoth, Arizona surrounded by his family. Services will be held on February 8, 2020 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church; Rosary at 10AM, Mass at 11AM, Burial will follow at Mammoth Cemetery. Afterward, a Luncheon will take place at the church, parish hall. Chuy was born May 17, 1930 in Hanover, New Mexico to Paufilo and Delores Bernal Becerra. He was the 7th of 13 children. Chuy was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952. He moved to Arizona in 1952 and began working for Magma Copper Company. He then married Magdelena "Nena" Gomez in 1953 and settled in Mammoth where they raised 7 children. Chuy was active in the church and community. He sang in the church choir, was a lecturer, and volunteered in the church hall calling numbers for Bingo. He also coached Little League and Senior League Baseball. After retiring from Magma in 1986, Chuy and Nena traveled the Western United States in their motorhome, settling back in Mammoth. He enjoyed working in his yard and volunteering for the Community Food Bank. He also enjoyed watching his favorite baseball team; the Arizona Diamondbacks. He enjoyed his role as husband, father, tata, great-tata and friend. He is preceded in death by his wife Nena of 64 years, grandsons, Luke Burnham and Alessandro Burnham and a great-granddaughter, Nicky Burnham. He was survived by his 7 children Elizabeth Burnham (Freddy), Grace Sargeant, Richard Becerra (Yolanda), Margaret Woodward (Richard), John Becerra, Sonia Cubbage (Paul), and Anna Gleason, as well as, his Brother Filipe Becerra (Hanover, NM), 20 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
