Joan Venditto, 76, passed away peacefully in the morning hours of March 19, 2018, in Tucson, Ariz. She was born in New York, NY to parents John and Lillian, and grew up in Long Island, NY. Following high school, she worked at S. Klein on the Square department store where she met her future husband, Carlo. The couple started a family with two children, Anthony and Carla before being whisked away by her husband's budding U.S. Civil Service career to West Germany, where their third child Michael was born. The family returned to the U.S, living in Hampton, Virginia, for a few years before moving to Sierra Vista, Ariz. Joan embarked on a civil service secretarial career that lasted 20 fulfilling years at Fort Huachuca. Joan also enjoyed being a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Sierra Vista Chapter. She made many friends in Sierra Vista and during retirement in Oro Valley, AZ. She and her husband traveled to multiple continents and countries on too many cruise ships to count while always being sure to bring her experiences and treasures back to her children and grandchildren. Joan's passion in life was her family, dancing, and a love for baking, especially pies. In the family's opinion, no pie has ever rivaled. Joan learned how to prepare Italian cuisine from her sisters-in-law and became a consummate and prolific cook. Her slow-cooked meat sauce was legendary among family and friends. Joan believed in traditional family values. Even though she worked all day at her career, she came home to prepare delicious dinners that her family enjoyed while sharing the day's events. Joan had a strong sense of self. She made sure to pass this quality to her children and grandchildren by always encouraging them to be the strong individuals they are today.Joan spent her last few years battling Alzheimer's disease, but still continued to smile through it all. Her family was incredibly blessed that she always recognized and enjoyed being with them even through her last days. She was a very much loved and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Joan is survived by husband Carlo,(married nearly 57 years) son Anthony (Celina), daughter Carla (Greg), son Michael (Charlotte) and grandchildren Clara, Matthew, Amanda and Gabriella. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 26th at Vistoso Funeral Home in Oro Valley at 10:30 am. Please leave condolences in the guestbook link below. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Joan's name to the Alzheimer's Association at Alz.org.
