Joanne Maya Martinez\n\nAugust 28, 1959 - July 6, 2021\n\nJoanne Maya Martinez, loving wife and mother passed away peacefully on July 6th at the age of 61 in Tucson, Arizona.\n\nJoanne was born on August 28, 1959, to William and Mary (Castillo) Maya, in the small mining community of San Manuel, Arizona. Joanne or "Jo" as many of the family called her, left San Manuel after high school, attended Cosmetology school, and worked in the salon industry until she met Cosme in 1986, while on a holiday family visit in New Mexico. They later married in 1988 and started a family, having two sons, Christopher and Anthony. In 1999, the family moved to Arizona, settling in Oro Valley.\n\nJo continued her career in financial services, working 13 years for Hughes Federal Credit Union in the mortgage lending department with what she described as "The Best Team Ever". Even after being diagnosed with her illness in early 2020, she continued to meet with family, friends, and colleagues closest to her, always wanting to be there for others.\n\nHer true love in life was her own family, raising two responsible and caring sons with her husband and participating in many voluntary school, church, and sport related activities. Christopher and Anthony were the pride of her life.\n\nJo's hobbies included her love for fashion and travel, especially going on family vacations to places like the White Mountains of Arizona for summer camping and winter skiing, the tranquil beaches of Maui and Oahu, and the adventurous theme parks in California and Florida. She also loved listening to her son, Anthony, play her favorite songs on the guitar, which included "Nothing Else Matters" and "What a Wonderful World". \n\nShe is survived by her husband of 32 years, Cosme, sons, Christopher (Jessica Valdez) and Anthony (Sarah), mother, Mary Ramirez, sisters, Dora Magdaleno and Marisa Maya, and brothers, Billy Maya, and Gabriel (Angelique) Maya and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, William Maya, step-father, Enrique "Wero" Ramirez, and brother-in-law, Sergio "Pina" Magdaleno.\n\nJoanne's love, memories, and spirit will forever remain in our hearts.\n\nA private memorial service will be held at the Vistoso Funeral Home in Oro Valley.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the University of Arizona Cancer Center or a charity of your choice.
