He has called Saddlebrooke, AZ home for 27 years. He was born March 2, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to parents John G. and Leda D. Fortino. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Barbara Anne Elder Fortino. Daughters, Joan Fortino Rebaza, Catherine A. (Steve) Garris, and Barbara J. Fortino; grandchildren, Jeremy B. (Michelle) Luckett and Sophia M. Rebaza and great grandchildren, Morgan and Alexander Luckett. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Leda, sister, Joy O'Laughlin, Son, John D. Fortino and numerous Uncles and Aunts whom he loved. John grew up in Chicago and graduated from Fenger High School. After high school he joined the US Air Force where he served as part of the military police. He then attended the University of Notre Dame where he launched his career in the consumer electronics industry. \n\n While he grew up in Chicago, IL , John also called Louisville, KY home for many years where he made lifelong friends. John's love of the "cowboy" lifestyle including his trusty horse Amigo whom together they spent many hours riding in the Catalina Mountains as a County Line Rider. His love of Jazz and Big Band music led him to the Tucson Jazz Society, where he became an active member and served as president. He was also a member and president of the Norte Dame Alumni Club. John also volunteered at the VA hospital in Tucson and 12 years at Tohono Chul. John loved his family, friends, work and Norte Dame. When you became his friend you were a friend for life. John will be missed by his loving family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Tucson Jazz Society or a charity of your choice.
