Joseph "Joe" McGowan III, 75, of Tucson, Arizona passed away June 7, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Nora McGowan; children, Joe (Lisa) McGowan, Kathleen (Kevin) Coogan and Patrick (Laura) McGowan; and grandchildren, Molly, Brendan, Sophia, Timothy, Charlotte, Katherine, JP and Jack.\n\nA graduate of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, Joe went on to earn his B.A. in economics at the University of Notre Dame in 1964, and his MBA from Indiana University in 1966. During his thirty years with JP Morgan Chase, where he served as a Vice President, Joe had the opportunity to work with Jacques Cousteau, the Hirshhorn Museum, and the Lutheran Church. The job with Chase brought him from New York City to Chicago in 1985.\n\nWhen he retired from Chase, he and Nora discovered Tucson, which Joe described as "heaven on earth." In Tucson Joe founded Business Fitness LC and pursued a variety of hobbies including bridge, golf, and stargazers. At the time of his death Joe was serving as Vice President of the Rotary Club of Saddlebrooke and as a Fourth Degree Knight for the Knights of Columbus. Joe was also a proud member of Sons of the American Revolution. \n\nJoe has been recognized on many occasions for his distinguished service, leadership in the community, and strong family values. For example, in 2007 the Saddlebrooke Rotary recognized him as their Rotarian of the Year, and in 1980 the Notre Dame Club of the Jersey Shore presented him their Award of the Year. In 2004 Joe and Nora together received the Family of the Year Award from the Knights Council in Morristown, NJ. \n\nJoe was an active parishioner at Santa Catalina Catholic Church, where he also served as a member of the pastoral council, a lector, and a Eucharistic Minister. As active as he was, he prioritized spending time with family, particularly his eight grandchildren, each of whom he adored unconditionally. \n\nA memorial mass will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017, at 10:00 am, at Santa Catalina Catholic Church.
