Katie Lee Wakeford Obituary (1931 - 2010)

Katie Lee Wakeford Katie Lee Wakeford, 79, passed away September 14, 2010 in the home she loved in Tucson, AZ. Katie was born and raised in Ohio and a long time resident of Whitefish Bay, WI. Katie is survived by her husband Addison (Bud) of 59 years and her three children, Kimberly (Keith) Holzberger, Mary Jo (Robert) Gindlin and Addison Wakeford III and her brother John (Martha) Gaston of Chillicothe, OH. Katie also had three grandchildren, Alexandria and Addison Wakeford IV and Harrison Gindlin and one great-grandchild, Lennon Wakeford. Katie graduated from Chillicothe High School in Chillicothe, OH in 1949 and attended Denison University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. There she met Bud and they moved to the Milwaukee area to start their family. Katie was a stay at home mother until her youngest child was in high school when she began a twenty year career in the insurance business. She worked at the M Barrington Agency in Milwaukee and focused her efforts on the group health and disability market. Katie was an accomplished amateur golfer and enjoyed competing in district matches and her club events at Tripoli Country Club in Milwaukee. In 1968, Katie became a director on the board of the Women's Western Golf Association. This organization fosters national golf competition for women and promotes education by encouraging the development of sportsmanship, amateurism and skill in the game of golf. Katie went on hold a number of leadership roles in the WWGA including President from 1977-78. She remained an associate director until her death. Thirteen years ago, Katie and Bud decided to relocate to Tucson, AZ but enjoyed spending summers in the UP of Michigan. They met a whole new circle of friends in Tucson and played lots of golf together. Katie's family wishes to thank our Dream Team' of caregivers - Katrina, Tara, Rosie, Stephanie and Terry. You each provided kind and compassionate care to Katie and to us. We would also like to thank Heather and Lisa from Casa de la Luz Hospice for their support and guidance during this difficult time. Services for Katie were private at her request.
