Lawrence (Larry) Marvin Bockhorn was born at home in Steeleville IL on October 28 1948 to Marvin and Phyllis (Kuykendall) Bockhorn. He has three older siblings Janet, Ernie and Mary and nine younger siblings Judy, Martha, Ronnie, Raymond, Dennis, Tommy, Jane, Carol and Sarah. Larry graduated from Steeleville High School in 1966. In 1967 he was drafted into the United States Army. He did his basic training in Fort Leonardwood. From there he was stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage Alaska until he was honorably discharged in 1974. He came back from service and helped on the family farm. In 1973 he married Janice Wittenborn on March 30. That same year he bought a farm in Blair, IL just down the road from his birth place. On September 26, 1973 they gave birth to a son, Jason Edward. In 1975 on October 29th they welcomed their daughter, Sheila Marie. Then in 1982 he began working as road commissioner in Randolph County. In 1983 the family moved from Blair to Schuline. Briana his first grandchild was born in 1993. Madeline was born in 2001 and Wyatt was born in 2004. Larry worked as Road Commissioner until 2000 when he retired from the position. After retiring Larry and Jan moved to Tucson, Arizona where he continued working as a mechanic/operator up until his stroke in 2006. In 2008 Larry and the family took a 2 month road trip to Alaska to visit the Ft. Richardson Army Base where he always wanted to revisit. For the next few years, Larry and Jan rotated back and forth between Southern Illinois summers and Arizona winters. In 2011 Larry and Jan decided to stay in Tucson permanently. He was able to enjoy many many road-trips over the next few years which had turned into his favorite past-time. On July 2nd 2015 Larry passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
