Lourdes (Lou) Hansen, formerly of Douglas, Arizona, passed away early Wednesday, January 04, 2012 after a long battle with Alzheimers dementia. She was born Lourdes Beltran y Gil in the Ermita district of Manila, Philippines on February 26, 1927. Lou came to the United States to give birth to her eldest son. She and her husband, Harold, then returned to the Philippines where Hal worked in Baguio. Their only daughter was born in Baguio. In early 1951 Hal and Lou and their children returned to the US to live permanently. She had two more children while living in San Mateo, CA and one more child while living in Douglas. Lou became an American citizen in 1953. In 1957 Hal accepted a job at the Paul Lime Plant near Douglas and it was Douglas that became the permanent family home. Life in Douglas suited her and she made many friends and got involved in many activities. She loved playing bingo and bowling with her Shamrock Dairy Bowling team. She also was active in Saint Luke's Church and with the Douglas YWCA. As the children grew up and moved out of town Hal and Lou remained in Douglas even after Hal retired and eventually moved to Tucson in 1996 but, their hearts never left Douglas. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hal, and her youngest son Eric, her father Antonio, mother Lourdes, brothers Ramon, Antonio and Jose Maria. She is survived by children Robert (Rosalinda), Christine Rowton (Nick), Rick (Becky), and Dennis (Tracey) as well as 9 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren in the United States and England. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Philippines, the United States, Australia and Spain. A memorial service will be held in Tucson at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton with another service on Saturday, January 14, in Douglas at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church. Final resting will be with her husband at Golden Gate Veteran's Cemetary in San Francisco.
