Col Mathew "Pyro" McCarty passed away after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Matt was born on May 16, 1977 in Stockton, CA to Matt and Greta (Jensen)McCarty. He went to St. Mary's High School and after graduation was accepted to Ebmry-Riddle Aeronautical University, in Prescott, AZ and graduated in 2000. Matt served as an F16 pilot in the USAF and AZ Air National Guard for over 17 years. On November 28, 2003 he married Sara Richards. They have 2 children Mathew and Grace. Matt loved flying mach 2 with his hair on fire, driving his convertible and helping his family with tech issues. He was known as a family man and had friends all over the world. He touched so many lives through his military service and mentorship to others. Matt is survived by his wife, Sara, children Mathew and Grace, grandparents Elmer and Roberta Nichols, parents Matt and Greta, sister Kristy, several cousins, nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on December 29th at Vistoso Funeral Home from 4-6pm. On December 30th the processional will begin at Casas Church at 8am and proceed to Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Marana for a service beginning at 9:00am. A Memorial service and reception to follow at 11:30am at Casas Church, Oro Valley. In lieu of flowers please send donations for MD ANDERSON CANCER CENTER (CLICK HERE) or the USO.
