To view Miles' Life Tribute, Click Here. Miles D. Freitag Miles died at home in Tucson, Arizona on January 2, 2012 at the age of 72 after a twenty-five year battle with prostate cancer. He passed peacefully and was surrounded by love. Miles was born on March 11, 1939 in Glasgow, Montana. He spent his youth in Bowman, North Dakota and graduated from high school there in 1956. Miles graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1961. He also received a Bachelor of Foreign Relations from the American Graduate School of International Management in 1962. Miles married Cheryl Larson on June 17, 1962 in Bisbee, North Dakota. They made their first home in Chicago, Illinois. They moved to Charles City, Iowa in 1965 where they raised two children - Mark and Michelle. Miles began working in the animal health industry in Charles City with Salsbury Laboratories and established the international sales group within the company. He traveled extensively and established new relationships and businesses throughout the world. His career flourished, and he became president of the company, then known as Solvay Animal Health, in 1984. Miles joined the Board of Directors of First Citizens National Bank and served for nearly 30 years until his death. In 1989 Miles relocated the corporate headquarters to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Miles and Cheryl moved to Apple Valley, Minnesota. Miles remained President of the company until his retirement in 1997. Miles and Cheryl moved to SaddleBrooke in Tucson, Arizona in 1999 where they built a home with a view of the Catalina Mountains. In his retirement, he enjoyed travel, family, tennis, reading and the birds of the desert. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, and he is survived by his wife, two children and two grandchildren.
