Oba Johnson Obituary (1925 - 2008)

Oba D. Johnson, 83, of Sun City Vistoso, Oro Valley, AZ was born February 14, 1925 in Knoxville, TN and passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Tucson, AZ on May 9, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Theone; son, David (Kay) Johnson; foster sons Gary Muir and Bruce (Ruth) Muir; and six grandchildren. Oba retired to Oro Valley in 1997 from Lexington, MI after a career in real estate and serving on a local bank board. He was a decorated WWII veteran with the U.S. Army. As a member of the First Division of the Big Red One, Oba landed among the first wave of invasions at Omaha Beach at Normandy. Oba was awarded 4 Bronze Stars for his campaigns at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes. Additionally, Oba received a Distinguished Unit Badge, a Bronze Arrowhead and a Purple Heart. A Memorial Gathering in Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 from 4-6 pm at The Catalina Vista Recreation Center, Sun City Vistoso. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. Arrangements entrusted to Vistoso Memorial Chapel, 544-2285.
