Patricia E. "Patty" Phillips (Wahl), 75 of Oro Valley, Arizona, formerly of Waynesboro, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at her home. She was born in Cumberland, Maryland on May 18, 1946 to the late Walter H. Wahl and Jacqueline E. Surprenant.\n\n \n\nPatty graduated from Western Maryland College in 1968 with degrees in English and Education. While at Western Maryland College, Patty was a member of the Iota Gamma Chi Sorority, the Honor Court and served two terms as president of the Pep Club.\n\n \n\nOn July 14, 1968, she married Samuel F. Phillips, Jr. of Cambridge, Maryland. In 1977 Sam and Patty moved to Waynesboro, Virginia where she later began teaching English at Stuarts Draft High School. Patty taught at Stuarts Draft High School for 19 years until her retirement on May 13, 1999.\n\n \n\nPatty served the Waynesboro community as President of the Berkley Glenn Elementary School Parent Teachers Association, Pack Leader and District Committee member in the Stonewall Jackson Area Counsel of the Boy Scouts of America and was actively involved as a volunteer in the Waynesboro South Little League.\n\n \n\nIn 2006 Patty and Sam moved to Oro Valley, Arizona where Patty was an active member of Thimblelenas (sewing club) for over 16 years while serving as its president for 3 years. She was also active in the Casa Amigas (sewing club) and Cheer Bears (sewing club). In addition, Patty was a member of the Sun City Posse for over 14 years, played in the Pathfinders Bowling League for 13 years and was actively involved in Seniors for Kids, the Bocce Club and Stained-Glass Club.\n\n \n\nPatty is survived by her husband Samuel F. Phillips, Jr., two sons Marc J. Phillips and his wife Anne M. Phillips of Wilmington, Delaware and Adam C. Phillips and his wife Leanne Phillips and her grandchildren Darien Phillips, Isaiah Phillips and Jeremiah Phillips of Salem, Virginia, her twin brother Patrick Wahl and his wife Tommy Wahl of Frederick, Maryland and her brother Michael Wahl and his wife Marilyn Wahl of Austin, Texas.
