Robert Hitz

Robert Alleman Hitz was born July 19, 1913 in Alleman, Iowa and passed away on October 22, 2009 at Casa de la Luz Hospice. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene. He is survived by three daughters, Susan (John) Ey of Portland, OR and Mary Miller and Barbara Roark of San Juan Island, WA; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. After serving in the Navy in Hawaii during World War II, Bob returned to Hawkeye Security Insurance becoming in time Vice President for Underwriting. Upon retirement, Bob and Arlene moved to Sedona, where he was active in civic affairs such as the Friends of the Library Board and The Church of the Red Rocks. Later, he and Arlene relocated to Tucson where they were active at Oro Valley United Church of Christ and Santa Catalina Villas. Bob loved sports whether playing football or running track when young or playing golf in retirement. He could dance a fast buck and wing, sing "Lida Rose" with the Villas' barbershop group, or offer a witty rejoinder. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Honesty and integrity were central to his life. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Oro Valley United Church of Christ, 1401 E.
