Robert LeRoy Hoskins, 93, died in his sleep on Thursday, April 29 in Oro Valley, Arizona, after a brief period of declining health. Born in Evanston Illinois in 1927, to Helen and LeRoy Hoskins, Bob graduated from Evanston High School, then enlisted in the US Navy at age 17, serving on multiple aircraft carriers including the U.S.S. Ticonderoga. Following his service, he joined L.W. Hoskins and Co, the Chicago-based stenography business founded by his father. He was married for 59 years to the late Doris Charlton, whom he met at Northwestern University when she was a nursing student. They raised four children in Wilmette Illinois. Upon retirement, he and Doris traveled extensively in Europe, Australia and Asia as well as Alaska and Hawaii. An avid photographer, Bob also enjoyed model railroading and motorcycling, an activity that Doris took up as well. After moving to Oro Valley with his son Richard in 2013, Bob continued to travel and to enjoy sightseeing in Arizona and the West.\n\nBob was predeceased by his wife Doris (2007), son Craig (1998) and daughter-in-law Anne (1999). He is survived by his son Richard (Christine), daughter Sally and son Arthur (Sarah) as well as by two grandchildren and a great-grandchild. \n\nIn Lieu of flowers, please donate to Habitat for Humanity or World Central Kitchen.
