Psalm 73:26 My flesh and my heart fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Salvatore Michael Formicola, Jr. On April 1st, 2024. At the age of 67 Sal took his place next to our lord in heaven making his ascent while in the arms of his soulmate from their residence in Oro Valley, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his mother Jean Mary Geppert, father Salvatore Michael Formicola, Sr, and son Mackenzie Raymond Formicola. He leaves behind his wife Susie Formicola, children Parker and Maree Formicola, and Grandchildren Graysen, Emric and Paisley. He is also survived by his twin sisters Mary Jean Jones (Formicola) and Sharon Joanne Formicola.
Sal, AKA Slugger, was born in Rochester, NY on March 13th, 1957. He spent most of his early childhood growing up in Batavia, NY before moving to Gates Chili, NY. Whilst growing up he was always the watchful eye over his mischievous twin sisters, Mary and Sharon. He was their rock and one constant throughout their entire lives. He was their protector and unwavering source of love.
At a young age Sal craved music and would seek any opportunity to sing in choir or perform in school plays. So naturally the piano became his paintbrush as he went through life composing and playing beautiful harmonies as his fingertips danced on the black and whites.
Sal was also highly decorated in his academic achievements throughout life. Starting in 4th grade with receiving a national honor of the President’s Award of Academic Excellence, graduating with honors from high school, moving on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from the University of Albany and finally obtaining his Masters from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He paved his way and made his mark in his career as the Tony Stark of his industry. Leading projects for our countries missile design, construction, technology, and testing. He also obtained and taught Six Sigma giving him the distinction and admiration of his peers.
Sal truly will forever leave his imprint on this world, not only to be remembered for his achievements, but so much more. Those who knew Sal or had the pleasure to call him a friend were ever so lucky to get into a deep conversation about God, the world, or his love for old cars. He always carried an orange on him and he also LOVED dogs, especially collies. Three to be mentioned are Kimbel and Scottie whom awaited him at the pearly white gates and Josie that will keep his inquisitive spirit alive here on earth.
But his biggest impression he leaves behind by far is his love for his family. Sal and Susie met in Melbourn, FL in 1987, to later combine as one on September 15th, 1990. Their eternal flame was ignited for each other and will forever burn. Their favorite pastime of worshiping together, as he played the piano and she sang praise, is engraved with in the walls of their home for all to feel. He is the Godly embodiment of what many can only hope to measure up to one day in life. His children and grandchildren will always have memories and lessons of love from the selflessness support he gave.
Salvatore Michael Formicola, Jr, AKA Slugger, you will forever be our Pianist, our Genius, our strength, our absolute Faith, our Rocket Man!
