After a courageous and lengthy battle with breast cancer, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on June 9, 2009. We celebrate the gift of her life on earth and the assurance of her life eternal in heaven. Sue was born in Hollywood, CA on May 22, 1933 to Sara and Carter A. Hoffmann. Sue grew up in San Gabriel, CA, graduating from Alhambra High School. She received her B.A. Degree from the University of Southern California where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority, serving as Vice President/Pledge Trainer, and later as Pledge Advisor, followed by President of the Alumni Chapter of North Orange County. Upon her graduation from U.S.C., she began a teaching career in Temple City until she married George R. Crosby. She was married for 50 years and enjoyed the blessing of three children and two grandchildren. Sue was always actively involved in civic activities, including P.T.A. and Bobby Sox Softball, extending the use of her exceptional organizational skills. Sue's heritage had always been of great interest to her, as evidenced by her membership in Daughters of the American Revolution, Christian Metzger Family Association, and her recent revision of the family's Carter Lineage. In 1985 Sue received a scholarship to pursue her Master's Degree at Cal State University at Long Beach. Upon completion of her M.A. she became the District Librarian for Fountain Valley School District, and later Westminster School District. Retiring in 1996, Sue and George moved to Tucson, Arizona, where they have enjoyed life in Saddlebrooke. Always an avid reader, Sue helped start a book club in the community and organized Sisters in Saddlebrooke, a social group of sorority alumni. Her hospitality, generosity and organization made life more pleasant for those around her. She will be missed dearly but remembered fondly in the hearts of her family and friends. Sue is survived by George Crosby, her husband and best friend. She is also survived by her children, Carter Allen (Melody) of Las Vegas, NV, Marianne (David) Landrith of Tucson, AZ, and Cay of Los Alamitos, CA; grandchildren, David Tyler Landrith, and Robin Landrith. She also cherished the many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends that made her life so rich. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Sara and Carter Allen Hoffmann, and brother, Carter Allen "Pete" Hoffmann, Jr. A Memorial Service for Sue is planned for Friday, June 12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Saddlebrooke Clubhouse. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love shown by the nurses and doctors at the Arizona Cancer Center and Casa de la Luz Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arizona Cancer Center, Casa de la Luz Hospice Foundation, or the Tucson-Pima Public Library.
