Verdell Robert Allison passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the age of 90. Services will be held Saturday, September 14, viewing at 10 a.m., and service at 11 a.m. at Oracle Assembly of God. Military graveside service at the Oracle Cemetery will follow with reception at the Community Center.. Verdell is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Lavona Allison, brother Everett Burton Allison, and Delilah Allison Peterson. He is survived by his wife Frances of 56 years, his children Dale (Denise) Allison and Mary (Carl) James, grandchildren, Anthony, Michelle, KyLynn, Amanda, Bethany, Julie, Heather, Sarah, Daniel, Ciara, Brittany, Michael, and Robert and great grand kids, Sydney, Adyn, Alea, Aria, and Adel. He was loved deeply by his immediate family and extended family alike. Verdell served in WWII in the Marine Corps from 1942-1945, as Second Lieutenant. He was a long time resident of Oracle for 52 years, and worked at Magma Copper Co. for 26 years. An active member of the Oracle community, Verdell was a little league coach, a coach's assistant or umpire at a moment's notice, and was instrumental in constructing the Johnnie Seballos field in Oracle. He was a friend to all he met and the first to respond to anyone in need. Many will remember Verdell as the handsome, tall, gentleman in the shorts, as he walked across town for years with his walking stick and a variety of dogs. Others will remember him as the happy smiling dad and grandpa always present for his family's events at plays, soccer, baseball, softball, and any other school activity. Some will know him as Fran's friendly husband. But he was most commonly known as the nicest man in oracle.
