William Walter Haugh May 18, 1934 ~ January 21, 2016
Bill was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and brought to Arizona with his family in 1937. They lived at Tiger Mine near Mammoth and then in Tucson which became Bill's home. He attended the Russell Ranch School in what is now Catalina State Park and Amphi Junior High. He graduated from the Fountain Valley School in Colorado Springs. Bill received a BA in economics and French from the U of A where he was on the fencing team. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. After his discharge he returned to Tucson and met and married Nancy Graver, his sister's French teacher. Bill then enrolled in the American Institute for Foreign Trade in Glendale and received a BFT degree. Bill and Nancy moved to Tulsa, Ok in 1953 and Bill pursued several careers as a plant manager, an art gallery owner and a professional artist. He was called to the Episcopal Priesthood in 1978 and received his MDiv from the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, TX. Now "Father Bill", he served as Canon of St. Paul's Cathedral in Oklahoma City and then as interim Dean. He was named the Diocesan Peace Officer and then Dean of the Region, an honor of which he was justly proud. He spent over eight years as Rector of St. Luke's, Chickasha, OK and while there also had a special ministry at Joseph Harp Medium Security Prison. Bill was a licensed addictions counselor who specialized in "fifth steps". After retiring, he and Nancy came home to Tucson where he was the chaplain at UMC, Interim Rector of Christ the King and Associate Pastor at St. Matthew's. A student of psychologist Carl Jung, he also established several Dream Workshops. Father Bill will be remembered as a compelling storyteller who often wove tales of Native American lore into his homilies.
He was a loving, funny, gentle soul."I Loved,I Was Loved,And That's All that Matters."
